This is used to be mine Fav. topic to discuss with CSC Junta when I joined CSC. Had variety of opinions frm different ppl and after working in both the divisions I won't miss out to share some of my knowledge.

First of all the environment of both the divisions is very much different. In GTS most of the ppl are cool n relaxed. There is nothing like work pressure.Excellent Work-Life Balance. Lots of masti. Some ppl just play Pool TT throughout the day to pass their time in office and still manage to take the EOQ(Employee Of the Quater) award. Some exceptions wud definitely be there but the overall scene of a GTS building is very much like this. Really a heaven on Earth for ppl coming fms colleges, who aren't interested in office chores and want to Njoy to the fullest.

N the picture is just the reverse in FSG. You get to taste the real soup of corporate world here. Lots of work, Night shifts, Weekend coming, Work pressure, Client pressure etc. Tough the work load wont be a worrying factor but still more than GTS in any aspect. Masti is there also but forget the luxuries of GTS. Also the ppl look more tensed in FSG. Don't know why ?

Work wise, Most of the better project in CSC are with FSG n you can get better work opportunities in FSG.Also the resource allocation of GTS is very poor. Only one third of the ppl of batch 06-07 that were first placed in GTS were retained. Rest of all were moved to FSG due to lack of work in GTS. Some of the fresher batches were unfairly moved to other locations like Indore,Hyderabad and some had to sit on bench all thruout the yr doing jst the internal assignments. Fresher batches in FSG did'nt had to face such situations. They were immediately moved to good projects once their trainining was over.

Training wise specially mainframes GTS has something to offer. Freshers batches in mainframes are given a high class training by a third party called maples on real mainframe systems in Hyderabad. CSC spends more than 50,000 on each GTS employee during the training including one side air fare plus 50 days stay in guest house. FSG ppl just do some laloo punju training on simulators.

FSG projects offer a good no. of onsite opportunities whereas GTS project have very few of them. However figures are starting to improve in GTS in this aspect.

The strangest thing I came to observe is dispite of working lesser than FSG guys, GTS guys got better salary increments. May be this was an compensation for getting less onsite opportunities and longer bench periods.

At last just want to suggest that if you 're looking for a career in technical domain and want to work hard then FSG might be the better suited. If work life balace is ur priority GTS is the right place for you. Also MBA aspirants can expect lots of idle time in office n prepare really well, if they happened to placed in GTS. 
In FSG this scene is quite difficult.
