BAs may have different profiles in different companies...

In CSC, a BA's work is mainly limited to making unit test plans and conducting Round Trip Testing.

BA is a senior post. I dont have much idea on the kind of work they do but yeah it should be inclined on the managerial side.
A Business Analyst is one who is kind of a functional expert in the project. He neednt be a technical wizard but must necessarily have a complete knowledge of the functionality of the field in which his project is being applied. I know people who are engineers as well as those who are not, becoming BAs. So it depends upon your inclination.

Where does a BA fit-in then?
What exactly does a BA do. I suppose I'm not wrong in assuming BA as Business Analyst. Can we engineers become BAs or some manegerial skills are required for that?

As far as my knowledge goes the hierarchy is almost the same for all IT firms. In TCS it is like that:-

1. Team Member (T.M.)
2. Module Leader (M.L.)
3. Project Leader (P.L.)
4. Project Manager (P.M.)
5. Account Manager (A.M.)
6. Group Leader (G.L.)

GL is generally 12-18 yrs of experienced person. Above GL, there is another hierarchy, which is generally pointed to as "Higher Management".
Altough, after GL, hierarchy might be slightly different in various companies.

Ofcourse not all of them can become the PMs. That is the minimum time requirement that one needs. Apart from that there are several factors like his performance, skills, achievements and team handling skills.

No in TCS the designations are like Assistant System Engineer, IT analyst, Assistant Consultant, Associate Consultant.... just wanted to know how long it takes between these designations and what is the salary variance?
